Overall Thoughts:

I went from ‘It’s just a knife’ to ‘It’s not just a knife’

But in all honesty it took me a few weeks to truly appreciate this knife. It wasn’t until I went back to using a traditional knife that I realised how much support an ergonomic knife offers me.

Appearance:

My one complaint would be style. Although I’d reach for this knife over others, it most definitely makes me feel a little unsettled to see a bright green knife in my drawer of aesthetically pleasing gold cutlery. I would definitely prefer a few more colour options that being said, if bright colours are for you- I’m sure you’ll love it. Unfortunately I do tend to find with daily living aids that they’re either very clinical or not designed with style in mind.

Comfort:

It’s not until you swap back to a standard knife you realise how comfortable this knife is.

How it works:

A right-angled knife’s design allows those with weaker hand function a better grip and its shape eases wrist strain. The ergonomic design allows the hand and wrist to rest in a neutral position, when compared to a regular knife, which puts a strain on the tendons on the upper wrist and compresses tissues in the lower.

The non-slip texture also further helps with feeling secure whilst chopping, so that you can feel confident that even if your grip weaken; the knife will not slip.

The tip of the blade also acts as a great resource for those who struggle to pick vegetables up as it acts similarly to a carving knife and can be used to be skewer, pierce or chop.

Why I would recommend it:

I would highly recommend this as I can physically feel the difference after long term use, now when I switch back to using a regular knife rather than the Easi-Grip. My hand therapist suggested it to me, as it relieves pressure and pain in the hand and wrist due to its optimal shape. I would also suggest one if you, like me, struggle with wrist pain.

Since using this knife I feel much more independent, I’m able to join my PA’s and enjoy cooking in the kitchen and chop softer vegetables such as peppers and cucumber whereas usually I have to allow them to do things for me.

Ideal User:

  • People with poor dexterity

  • Weak grip

  • Arthritis

  • Hypermobility
