Electric Tin Opener:

Price: £25.89

Available at: Amazon

How it works:

Once plugged into the wall, simply lift the black handle whilst hovering your tin/can underneath. The magnet within the machine will then stick to the tin, bringing it close enough for the blade to cut. The mechanical rotating system means the tin spins until the whole circumference is perfectly cut. Whilst the magnet holds onto the lid of the tin until you manually slide it off, preventing you from cutting yourself on metal tin lids! A bonus feature is the discrete bottle opener and electric knife sharpener, both of which frequently come in handy and save you from having multiple devices with different purposes. Note* the magnet can become easily detached onto tin lids as it is so strong. I’ve had it end up in the bin a few times so definitely watch out for that.

 Appearance:

Over the years I’ve had a multitude of tin openers, although they are a lot smaller than this tin opener, I find the fact this is electronic outweighs the size.

Colour options: Black and silver or Slate grey.

Note it does take up extra side space and require a plug socket, however it does have a

retractable cable.

Overall Thoughts:

Some ‘disability aids’ are kitchen appliances I think should be in every home! Why on earth do people struggle with those clunky metal tin openers or manual handheld openers that require hulk-like strength and hanging upside down to open?

Although this is a three in one device I would definitely say the knife sharpener could be a lot better. The bottle opener however works well as a sturdy bottle opener.

Ideal User:

This product may seem like a luxury to some, but for someone with reduced motor skills, or perhaps for a busy parent with only one hand free, it is brilliant. I no longer have to wait around or plan to ensure someone can open a tin for me. So perhaps an elderly person who would benefit from being able to open a tin of soup in between care visits would also love this! The only downside is that it isn’t quiet and the blade is sharp, so it may not be suitable for people with sensory processing issues!
